The Eastern Himalayan Tour: This is a 16-day tour package which begins with a tour of Darjeeling (place of Dorje or Thunderbolt, or the mystical) and
Kalimpong. Being the most popular hill station since the time of British rule, the
place provides a spectacular view of the Kanchendzonga, the third highest mountain in the
world. Our next itinerary will be Sikkim, the home of the Kanchendzonga, rich in
flora and fauna and populated by diverse ethnic and cultural groups. The original
inhabitants, the Lepchas, call the region Nye-mae-el, meaning Paradise. To the Bhutias,
the later arrivals, it is Beymul Denjong (the Hidden Valley of Rice). The Sikkim tour will
include a visit to the Rumtek Monastery, the headquarters-in-exile of the Kagyu Sect of
Tibetan Buddhism; Tsango Lake, located 38 Kms from Gangtok, and Pemayangtse, built during
the reign of 3rd Chogyal (religious king) Chodar Namgyal in 1705.
